Since the implementation of Prop 13 in 1979, drastic cuts were made to California’s educational funding. Programs – such as music and art – that used to be part of the standard public school curriculum are no longer funded by the State. Property taxes and parcel taxes do not fully cover the amount that is needed, leaving our school district, like many others with a significant funding gap each year. As a result, our schools are community-funded and we count on family participation to make up the difference.
