Our Impact

OUR SCHOOLS ARE COMMUNITY FUNDED

Public schools in California rely on community funding because state and local revenues are insufficient to fund a well-rounded education. For more than 40 years SPARK has helped to bridge this funding gap for the students and schools in the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District. SPARK is committed to raising funds to protect the exceptional educational programs our students receive at Neil Cummins, The Cove School and Hall Middle School.

Most people believe that property taxes – along with local and state revenues – should cover the cost of quality public school education. However, the passage of Proposition 13 in 1978 drastically reduced public school funding. As a result, numerous vital programs would simply not be available to LCMSD students without the annual contributions of our district families and community.

SPARK CONTRIBUTION TO LCMSD

The 2022-2023 fundraising goal is $1.5M and we rely on Annual Giving donations from families each year, which account for 80% of the Foundation’s total revenue. With your financial support SPARK provides access for every student to programs including Music, Performing Arts, Art, Science, Technology/Engineering, and Wellness programs. This includes materials, supplies, salaries and benefits for 17 teachers and staff this year.

INVESTMENT PLAN

The Larkspur-Corte Madera School Trustees and District administration determine the curriculum for the District, establish priorities for program development, and identify crucial District needs. SPARK then collaborates with the District to provide funding where needed to execute the Board-approved plan. All programs and services funded by SPARK are developed and managed by the District. As dollars are raised within the current school year, SPARK disperses those funds in four installments throughout the year to be used for Neil Cummins, The Cove and Hall Middle School.
